Ribika is said to be one of the cats ancestors and their goddess. To save the humans she took the body of a cat and served them afterwards. However, while she was a cat she couldn't support the sun any longer and so it fell into the sea. She solved this by splitting the moon into two, the moon of light and the moon of shadow.
